Detroit Man Gets 3 Years In Prison For Child Porn

DETROIT (AP) - A Detroit federal judge who has been criticized for light sentences for child pornography has sent a man to prison for three years, a punishment that was below the recommendation of prosecutors.

The government had sought at least six years in prison for Leo Williams, who had 1,400 images of child porn. Judge Arthur Tarnow settled on three years Thursday.

Anything less than three years in prison would have allowed prosecutors to drop the plea deal with Williams. The 63-year-old Detroit man acknowledged the images were "disgusting."

Tarnow generally isn't in favor of long prison sentences for people who possess but don't create or distribute child porn. An appeals court recently removed him from a case after he twice refused to send a man to prison.
