Detroit Man Charged In Double Homicide On Piedmont Street

DETROIT (WWJ) - The Wayne County Prosecutor's office has charged Alonzo Long, Jr., 22, of Detroit with two counts of first degree murder, in connection with the fatal shooting deaths of Howard Franklin, 72 and his daughter Catherine Franklin 37, both of Detroit.

The Franklins had purchased the home on Piedmont St. in October through auction and were in the process of claiming the home which had occupants.

The father and daughter reportedly called police when they noticed that the people moving from the home were removing fixtures from the house, but police did not immediately respond.

The father and daughter were armed as was the defendant but it's not known at this time who fired shots first.

According to police, when the men were confronted by Howard Franklin, Long fatally shot the Franklins with a handgun.

Long fled the scene and was later arrested by the police. The case remains under investigation at this time.

Long was expected to be arraigned Monday morning in 36th District Court but a bomb threat has delayed all proceedings at the courthouse Monday morning.
