Detroit Man Charged In Death Of 4-Month-Old Son

DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities say a 23-year-old Detroit man is being held responsible for the death of his 4-month-old son.

Deandre Hamilton is expected to be arraigned Tuesday in 36th District Court on multiple charges, including felony murder, first-degree child abuse and second-degree child abuse.

The Wayne County's Prosecutor's Office says Hamilton murdered his son, Elijah Jones, while the child's mother was at work on Sunday. Officials say the baby died just 40 minutes after a 911 call was placed.

According to police, paramedics were called at 6:15 p.m. because the child was not breathing at Hamilton's apartment, located in the 200 block of West Grand Boulevard near I-75 in southwest Detroit. Despite their efforts, Elijah was pronounced dead at 6:56 p.m.

The medical examiner determined that the child died from blunt force trauma.

Other details about the case were not immediately released.
