Detroit Man Arrested After Leading Police On Chase, Crashing Into Cars

DETROIT (WWJ) - Michigan State Police arrested a 46-year-old Detroit man after he allegedly led them on a chase.

MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw said troopers tried to pull the suspect over for a traffic violation in Detroit Wednesday evening, but he fled and hit a parked car before speeding away — with police in pursuit — to the area of 7 Mile and Hoover Road.

Shaw said that's where it ended.

"A DPD unmarked car attempted to block off traffic to make sure none of the public were injured,"  Shaw told WWJ's Zahra Huber. "The individual proceeded through the intersection and lost control of his vehicle, struck the back-end of the unmarked DPD vehicle and then two parked cars."

No one was hurt.

"Fortunately we were able to take him into custody right there, without incident," Shaw said. "We're happy to report there were no troopers injured, there were no injuries to the DPD officer, and all the citizens are OK."

Shaw said the suspect was wanted on several outstanding warrants.

His name has not been released, pending formal charges.
