Detroit Man Arraigned In Fairlane Mall Shooting Case

DEARBORN (WWJ/AP) — A 22-year-old Detroit man faces armed robbery and weapons charges in connection with a shooting incident inside a shopping mall.

The Wayne County prosecutor's office says Diente Watts was arraigned Friday in Dearborn.

Watts was arrested Tuesday, a day after a pair of designer glasses were taken at gunpoint from a 24-year-old man at Fairlane Town Center in Dearborn, just west of Detroit.

Shots were fired after the glasses were taken. No one was hurt from the gunfire.

The mall was placed on lockdown for several hours as police searched for the people involved in the robbery and shooting.

Evening classes were cancelled at nearby University of Michigan-Dearborn and Henry Ford College.

Watts was ordered held on a $400,000 bond. He also must wear a GPS tether.

A preliminary examination is scheduled for Dec. 4.
