'Detroit Is A Major Center Of Sex Trafficking' CEO Says There's A Lot Of Work To Be Done

DETROIT (WWJ) - Every night many girls and young women are living on the streets of Detroit putting their lives in danger.

One local organization is working to change that - reports WWJ Health Reporter Dr. Deanna Lites explains.

The non-profit organization Alternatives for Girls provides shelter, support and hope for homeless and high-risk girls and young women.

It's something they've been doing for 30 years. And while they have success stories to share, CEO Amy Good says there is still a lot of work that needs to be done.

"There are hundreds of homeless youths on the streets in Detroit every night and not enough beds available for them," said Good. "In terms of girls and women who are involved in street based prostitution and victims of trafficking - Detroit is a major center of sex trafficking."

Alternatives for Girls is holding their annual fundraising Role Model Dinner on Thursday at The Fillmore.
