Detroit Institute Of Arts Open On MLK Day

DETROIT (WWJ) - The Detroit Institute of Arts will be open Monday for Martin Luther King Day.

Special activities will take place including "drop-in workshops" where you learn how Tibetan prayer flags are made and used while you create your own personal flag to take home.

Take a guided tour of the African American art galleries, which feature works by Benny Andrews, Ali McGee, Tyree Guyton, among others.

The DIA's Detroit Film Theatre will present a documentary on Dr. King with rare footage of speeches, protests and arrests with scenes of high-profile supporters and opponents of the cause.

The DIA will be open Monday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., with free admission for Wayne, Oakland and Macomb County residents as well as DIA members.
