Detroit Gears Up To Celebrate 150th Year Of Vernors Ginger Ale

DETROIT (AP) — Vernors Ginger Ale is marking its 150th year and a week of events is planned to celebrate in its Detroit hometown.

The Detroit Historical Museum presents a display of Vernors artifacts Tuesday through June 12. The Detroit Experience Factory leads a sold-out ginger beer crawl June 10. And a Vernors 150th Anniversary Party is June 11 at the Detroit Historical Museum.

Vernors is a distinctive ginger ale that's long been popular in the state. It was created by James Vernor in a Detroit pharmacy following the conclusion of the Civil War.

The anniversary party includes appearances by Vernor family members, historical presentations, a screening of the documentary "Detroit Remember When: Made in the Motor City" and an attempt to set a record for the most Vernors drinkers.
