Detroit Firefighters Save Dog From House Fire With Help Of Humane Society [VIDEO]

DETROIT (WWJ) - Firefighters in Detroit have proven that there's no life too small to save.

On Friday, March 6, the Michigan Humane Society Rescue Department received a call from the Detroit Fire Department who were on the scene of a vacant house fire on the west side, near Curtis and Bentler, where dogs were trapped inside.

Upon arrival, the MHS Rescue driver was notified that one dog had been found dead, while another was still alive but struggling to breathe. The dog, a 6-month-old pit bull, was also covered in ice from the spray of the fire hose.

The driver rushed the dog, now named Curtis, to the MHS Detroit Center for Animal Care where a veterinarian determined the animal had suffered smoke inhalation. After receiving vaccinations, Curtis was placed in a cage with food, water and blanket, next to a blowing fan to help keep fresh air circulating to ease his breathing.

Curtis needed a few weeks of recovery time but is now happy, healthy and waiting for his forever home. Interested adopters can visit the MHS Detroit Center for Animal Care at 7401 Chrysler Drive or call 313-872-3400.
