Detroit Filmmaker's Latest Project A Labor Of Love For His Older Sister

DETROIT (WWJ) - Getting more African Americans to become bone marrow donors is what led a local filmmaker to produce his latest film, titled "Match," a labor of love for his older sister.

Detroiter Anthony Green told WWJ's Terri Lee that he decided to make the film after his 53-year-old sister was diagnosed with leukemia and doctors informed her that she needed a transplant.

"All my brothers and sisters got tested, and come to find out I, the youngest brother, was a match for her," Green said. "So, I thought it would be a good idea to not only, of course, be a match for my sister, but to film the process to let others know how the process goes and to kind of spread awareness."

Once Green started researching the film, he discovered that African Americans of all ages are dying because of a lack of bone marrow donors.

"When we started to do the research on it, we found out that a lot of African Americans do not donate," Green added.

Not only did Green donate bone marrow, he discovered a new purpose.

"To present films with a message," Green said. "That's my ultimate goal, to present films with a message and, hopefully, people can learn ... from each project I do."

Green's film can be viewed here.
