Detroit Dog Show Is Back On After 1-Year Hiatus
DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Kennel Club is bringing back its dog show after canceling the 2014 event due to a lack of sponsorship.
Organizers announced Tuesday that the 112th and 113th shows are June 20-21 at Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi.
Before 2014, the show took place for nearly a century. Held at downtown Detroit's Cobo Center, it typically drew about 2,000 dogs and thousands of spectators, but the club struggled to find sponsors after pet food maker Purina withdrew several years ago.
This year's show is expected to bring together 160 breeds and varieties recognized by the American Kennel Club and will include obedience competitions, terrier racing and therapy dog testing.
The event builds on a Motor City tradition dating back to 1916.
