Detroit District Shifts $300K To Address Building Issues
DETROIT (AP) - Detroit Public Schools says it is redirecting $300,000 in budgeted funds to address building issues, including those cited in city inspections.
The school district said Monday that the funds are being transferred from existing spending plans of other district departments.
Rolling teacher sick-outs have forced dozens of district schools to close on various days. They were staged amid complaints of poor pay, unsafe buildings and other issues, including mold and rodent infestations.
According to the district, 46 of 97 school buildings have been inspected by the city, and plans are in place to address issues cited. The district said weekly progress updates on building issues will be available on a new page on its website beginning Tuesday.
