Detroit Council's Jones To Seek 13th District Write-In

DETROIT (AP) — Detroit City Council President Brenda Jones is making another push for the two-year 13th U.S. House District seat.

Michigan Secretary of State spokesman Fred Woodhams said Monday that the Wayne County Clerk's Office has confirmed that Jones filed to run in the Nov. 6 general election as a write-in candidate.

Jones won a special primary in August to finish out the final two months of longtime Rep. John Conyers' term, but Democrat Rashida Tlaib won the regular primary for the full two-year term that starts in January. Jones has not said if she will take the two-month term.

Tlaib in on the general election ballot, as is Green Party candidate D. Etta Wilcoxon and Working Class candidate Sam Johnson.

The district represents Detroit and some surrounding cities. Conyers stepped down late last year after sexual harassment claims by former staffers.
