Detroit Bus Driver Charged In Assault Of Female Passenger

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A Detroit Department of Transportation bus driver has been charged with aggravated assault and battery in connection with a confrontation with a female passenger.

Prosecutors said 56-year-old Roy Duane Bell was scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Detroit's 36th District Court on the misdemeanor charge.

A Wayne County sheriff's deputy arrested Bell after witnessing the Feb. 3 incident in the 8200 block of West Outer Drive, near Wayne County Community College, on Detroit's west side.

Sheriff's officials said it was just after noon when the 21-year-old woman exchanged words with the DDOT driver after she and two other women were told to exit the bus so he could take a break.

Prosecutors said the woman was assaulted after she got off the bus.

Court records listing whether or not Bell has an attorney were not available Friday.
