Detroit-Area Reservists Preparing For Afghanistan Deployment

SOUTHFIELD (AP) - Nearly 40 Army reservists are preparing for deployment to Afghanistan to support Operation Freedom's Sentinel.

Military officials say a farewell ceremony will be held Saturday at the Southfield Municipal Complex, north of Detroit.

The reservists are members of the Southfield-based 645th Regional Support Group.

The unit provides contingency and expeditionary base operations support. Its responsibilities include managing facilities, providing administrative and logistical support of soldier services, and ensuring the security of personnel and facilities on a base camp.

Operation Freedom's Sentinel was launched Jan. 1, 2015.
