Detroit-Area Doctor Seeks Bond In Fraud Case

DETROIT (AP) - A Detroit-area doctor in jail on fraud charges will make another appeal to get bond while he awaits trial in federal court.

Judge Paul Borman is holding a hearing Monday in the case of Dr. Aria Sabit. He's accused of cheating insurers and patients by promising certain spinal surgeries but performing other procedures on the back.

Sabit has been in custody for more than a month. Prosecutors fear he'll flee to Afghanistan or elsewhere if he's released on bond. His lawyers say he's not going anywhere.

The Bloomfield Hills man surrendered his California medical license last summer after similar malpractice allegations.
