Detroit-Area Artists, Performers Receive Kresge Foundation Fellowships

DETROIT (AP) — Kresge Arts in Detroit says 16 artists and two groups have received film and music fellowships and live arts fellowships.

Each fellowship comes with an unrestricted $25,000 prize and a year of professional practice support.

Four artists also have received Gilda Awards and $5,000 each to foster their work. The Gilda Award is named after the late Gilda Snowden, a professor in the College for Creative Studies and 2009 Kresge Artist fellow.

Recipients will be honored during a July 12 program.

The fellowships and Gilda Awards are funded by the Troy-based Kresge Foundation. President Rip Rapson says it's "an honor to be able to support" area artists and "elevate their work."

Application information for 2019 Kresge Artist Fellowships in Literary Arts and Visual Arts will be available this fall.
