Amid Winter Blast Delta Plane Slides Off Runway At Detroit Metro Airport

DETROIT (WWJ) - Amid a winter storm warning - a Delta plane slides off the runway at Detroit Metro Airport.

The Detroit Free Press reporting that the flight, DL 724, departed from Buffalo at 10:05 a.m. and was scheduled for arrival at 11:27. Passengers exited the aircraft from its tail upon the rough landing. The plane slid off the runway and into the grass.

Passenger Scott Erikson says the crew knew what to do.

"They did a good job keeping us all calm, and got us all off the plane in an orderly fashion," said Erikson. "People on the ground were hustling too helping you on the bus, off the bus, telling you exactly where you needed to go."

No injuries have been reported.

Heavy snow continued to pound the Detroit Metro area on Sunday -- with much of Michigan's southern Lower Peninsula, from Lake Michigan to Lake Huron, under a winter storm warning - the first significant storm of the season.

There are predictions of 7 to 10 inches of snow.
