Dearborn Parade Among Numerous Michigan Memorial Day Events

DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) - A Memorial Day parade that bills itself as the oldest continuous event of its kind in Michigan is among many to mark the holiday statewide.

Dearborn's 92nd Memorial Day parade is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Monday. It features roughly 80 patriotic units and nine marching bands.

The event in the Detroit suburb is staged to pay tribute to those who died in U.S. military service. This year, it focuses on veterans who died by suicide.

Many other holiday parades are planned, including those in West Bloomfield, Ypsilanti, Allegan, Kalamazoo, Fowlerville, Muskegon, Stockbridge, Charlotte and Burton.

Numerous observances and ceremonies also are on tap across the state, including veteran and solider tributes at Fort Wilkins Historic State Park in Copper Harbor and Fort Mackinac on Mackinac Island.
