Dan Gilbert's 'Rocket Fiber' Will Bring High-Speed Internet To Downtown Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) -- A brand new high-speed internet provider is coming to downtown Detroit, and it's arriving thanks to a well-known Detroit figure.

Businessman Dan Gilbert and his company Rock Ventures will be bringing Rocket Fiber internet service to the downtown area in the near future.

Rocket Fiber will look to compete with Google Fiber, which is currently in Kansas City, Austin and Provo, with plans to expand to nine more cities -- Detroit not being one of them.

After the network is completed in the downtown area, it is expected to expand down Woodward and into Midtown.
