3-Year-Old Boy Killed, 3 Others Injured When SUV Hits Trees In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) -  A 3-year-old boy is dead and three others are hospitalized after a family SUV slammed into some trees  on Detroit's west side.

Police at the scene Tuesday morning, on Fenmore at Florence — near the Southfield Freeway service drive and Grand River — said those hurt in the accident were the sisters, ages 6 and 9, and the 34-year-old father of the little boy who was killed.

They were taken to Grace Hospital where they were reported to be in stable condition.

Police said it was not immediately clear what might have caused the man to lose control of his Ford Escape.

"We have conflicting stories as to whether he may have fallen asleep at the wheel or may have been struck by another car. We have to confirm that," said Assistant Detroit Police Chief Steve Dolunt.

An investigation continues.

No names have been released.
