Dad Jailed After Allegedly Beating 12-Year-Old With Belt

PONTIAC (WWJ) - A Pontiac father is waking up in jail Tuesday after he was accused of using a belt to beat his son.

The situation unfolded around 8:30 p.m. Monday at a home in the 90 block of Lull, in a neighborhood near Orchard Lake Road and Bagley Street, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

When deputies arrived, they spoke with the 12-year-old's mother, who said her son had been beaten by his father with a belt. The father was apparently upset because the boy didn't step in when an adult started talking with his brothers and sisters at the library, police said.

The boy, who was observed at the scene with numerous welts on his arms and back, was taken to St. Joseph Hospital for examination.

The father was placed under arrest and is currently lodged at the Oakland County Jail. Charges are pending.

Police said Child Protective Services has been notified of the situation. An investigation is ongoing.
