Dad Accused Of Leaving Baby, 2-Year-Old In Casino Garage Charged With Child Abuse

DETROIT (WWJ) - An Ypsilanti man accused of leaving his two young children in a car while he gambled at Detroit's Motor City Casino had been charged with child abuse.

Police say the boys — ages 5 months and 2 years old — were rescued by a casino employee who spotted them alone in the garage and broke into the car with the help of a security guard.

Montez Sistrunk, 25, was later found on the casino floor, according to police.

The children, who were alone in the car for about 30 minutes, were not physically harmed — although witnesses reported it was extremely hot inside the vehicle.

The Wayne County Prosecutors office say Sistrunk is scheduled to be arraigned in 36th District Court at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday on two counts of child abuse, second degree.

The boy's mother was at work at the time of the incident. Child Protective Services and the Detroit Police Department's Child Abuse Unit are assisting with the case.
