CW Brings 'Batwoman' To TV Screen

This upcoming fall, the CW is bringing a new female superhero to the television screen. Batwoman is joining the primetime line-up alongside the hit TV show Supergirl. Ruby Rose of Orange Is The New Black fame is playing the lead role of Kate Kane, a woman who becomes Gotham's new vigilante after Batman disappears. Watch the trailer here:

Ruby Rose is incredibly excited about being casted as Batwoman. She spoke of her personal connection to the character on Jimmy Fallon:

"My first attempt at Batwoman is when I was a kid," Rose told Fallon. "My mom has a little bat tattoo, a Batman tattoo, because she had pet bats growing up. She was telling me the story about, and we grew up without a lot of money, so I would make my toys. I made bat wings out of little cardboard boxes. I would jump and she would catch me, and we had to keep gaffer-taping them, because they were all soggy and gross. I just lived in them — and now I'll get ones that aren't made out of cardboard."

Ruby Rose is also making history as Batwoman will be the first openly gay character in the DC Comics universe. She takes this role very seriously, despite some social media criticism of her not identifying as gay. She stated her disappointment in a now-deleted Twitter post:
