Crashes related to diesel fuel spill on M-10 disrupt Thursday morning rush hour travel

CBS News Detroit

Traffic was disrupted for the Thursday morning rush hour in Metro Detroit, with an accident-related closure of the Lodge Freeway in Wayne County.

Michigan State Police reported that a semitruck leaked about 700 pounds of diesel fuel all over M-10, also known as Lodge Freeway, from Wyoming Avenue through Livernois Avenue, about 5 a.m. Three crashes happened as a result of the spill, none of them resulting in injuries. While the vehicles were cleared, the spill remained, police said at 7 a.m.

Because of the disruption, Michigan Department of Transportation closed all lanes of southbound Lodge Freeway at Wyoming Avenue. Traffic had backed up to Meyers Road by 6 a.m., MDOT said.

The suggested detour while cleanup continues is McNichols eastbound to Livernois southbound, then back to M-10.

The highway reopened around 9:15 a.m.

MDOT traffic reports are posted at MI Drive.
