Woman Killed In Crash Involving Semi-Truck On US-23 In Monroe County

SUMMERFIELD TOWNSHIP (WWJ) -- A woman was killed in a serious crash that had southbound US-23 closed in Monroe County for several hours on Monday afternoon.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says Janet Rheinecker, 68, of Sylvania, Ohio was killed when a tractor-trailer rear-ended her Ford F-350 that was pulling a trailer on southbound US-23 near Ida West Rd. in Summerfield Township.

Authorities say the Ford was stopped in the right lane due to construction ahead. When the tractor-trailer struck Rheinecker's vehicle, it was forced into a Lexus that was stopped ahead of it, which collided with two additional tractor-trailers that were stopped in traffic.

Rheinecker was pronounced dead on the scene. There were no other injuries reported.

Police say alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call 734-240-7493.
