Truck crash closes part of westbound I-96 in Livingston County for hours
A truck crash Monday morning on westbound I-96 in Livingston County has closed that section of the freeway for hours, with no word yet as to when it will reopen.
The Michigan State Police report a 2014 Peterbilt semi tractor-trailer was westbound when the driver, a 65-year-old Harper Woods man, failed to maintain control of the vehicle. The truck struck the ramp/bridge from eastbound Grand River Avenue to eastbound I-96, which caused the tractor and trailer to detach from each other.
The collision forced the tractor about 100 feet into the ditch, with the trailer blocking the westbound lanes of I-96.
The driver had minor injuries as a result of the crash, and is being treated on scene.
One traffic lane was blocked for a time along eastbound I-96 after Latson Road / Exit 140. The westbound lanes along Business I-96 at Grand River Avenue / Exit 141 were not back open until 2:20 p.m.
Troopers from the Brighton post were assisted on scene by the Livingston County Sheriff's Office, Livingston County EMS and Brighton Fire Department.
Traffic reports are available on the MI Drive website.
