'Cowardly Act' Has Police Seeking Witnesses In Weekend Shooting Of Teen

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police say they're having trouble finding witnesses to a weekend shooting that left a 13-year-old boy hospitalized.

Tyrone Gladden was walking near Joy and Greenfield on the city's west side Sunday afternoon when someone in a car pulled up and shot him in the back. He was headed to a birthday party.

"We are having a challenge finding the two - who were both minors - so we are asking for the public's help so that we can get to the bottom of this," said Detroit Police Chief James Craig.

He says whoever's behind this is a "coward."

"When you talk about children being shot at -- something is inherently wrong that ... there should be no shooting at all in fact, anytime we are talking about drive-by shootings, you've heard me say it before, it's a cowardly act - it continues to be a cowardly act and these cowards shot a child."

Gladden is in critical condition but is expected to recover.
