Couple Killed In Crash On Slick Lapeer County Road

DEERFIELD TOWNSHIP (AP/WWJ) - A husband and wife have died in a crash in Lapeer County after their car struck another vehicle coming from the other direction.

The sheriff's department says the victims are 70-year-old James Hinman and 68-year-old Peggy Hinman, both from Columbiaville.

Their Buick was hit by a Subaru Outback Monday night in Deerfield Township, 70 miles north of Detroit. The westbound Buick was hit on the passenger side after crossing into the eastbound lane. Snow was falling at the time and weather may have been a factor.

The 29-year-old driver of the Subaru didn't have serious injuries.

As a storm system moved across the state Monday night, Lapeer may have seen the worst of it in Southeast Michigan.  The National Weather Service says about three inches was recorded in Lapeer. School districts in Lapeer and Monroe counties were closed due Tuesday to the snowy conditions.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Tuesday for the entire southeast Michigan region. [More on the weather, here].
