Couple Charged In String Of Home Invasions Across Wayne County

WESTLAND (WWJ) - A Wayne County couple is behind bars, suspected in a week-long crime spree.

Police say 25-year-old Darlene Binyard and 26-year-old Duan Crawford forced their way into multiple houses around the county.

They allegedly stole an elderly man's pistol and car in Garden City before they robbed and held a family of four at gunpoint in Westland. In their hometown of Inkster, they allegedly kicked in a woman's door and robbed her of money, credit cards and a laptop.

Police said they tried to rob a second Inkster woman but she was able to fight them off, closing the door before they could enter her home. They're also suspected in an additional Westland robbery.

The suspects were identified when they eventually ran out of gas in the stolen vehicle, according to Westland police. Crawford is a parole absconder, with an original charge of breaking and entering.

Both Crawford and Binyard were arraigned on armed robbery and home invasion charges.

They each remain held on a $750,000 bond pending a probable cause hearing set for Thursday, Oct. 15.
