Counselors On Hand After Student Killed By Alleged Drunk Driver After Homecoming

ST. IGNACE (WWJ) - Students & staff at LaSalle High School in St. Ignace are coping with a homecoming tragedy as senior Mitchell Snyder was killed on his way home after homecoming over the weekend.

He was hit and killed by an alleged drunk driver.

St. Ignace Area Schools superintendent Don Gustafson says grief counselors and therapy dogs are on hand at the school Monday.

"If the student needs some help and wants to just sit and pet a dog that helps sooth their emotions -- that's just a different aspect of numerous services we are tying to line up for people," said Gustafson.

Gustafson said Snyder had an infectious smile that could light up a room when you saw him.

Funeral services for Snyder, who lettered in football, basketball and baseball, will be Wednesday evening at the high school.
