Consumers Agree: Going To The Mall During Holidays Is Their Worst Nightmare

DETROIT (WWJ) - If you hate shopping at the mall during the holiday season, you're definitely not alone.

According to new research from ACCENT, a customer engagement solutions company, nearly two-thirds of consumers say going to the mall during the holidays is their worst nightmare.

The company surveyed more than 1,000 consumers throughout the United States to find out how their shopping habits varied during the holiday season.

"Our research found that Black Friday and Cyber Monday is less meaningful to consumers than in the past," John Hoholik, ACCENT's chief engagement and solutions officer, said in a statement.

In fact, 70 percent of customers said Black Friday is meaningless because there will be numerous other sales through the holiday.

Key findings in the report include:

• 88 percent of consumers say free shipping makes them more likely to shop online
• 82 percent of customers don't make a Black Friday plan
• 65 percent say going to the mall during the holidays is their worst nightmare
• 51 percent shop in stores to physically evaluate products
• 47 percent say store employees let things fall through the cracks because the holidays are so busy
• 36 percent say Cyber Monday is the best day to find deals online
• 30 percent shop online to find the best deal possible
• 20 percent shop online strictly to avoid holiday crowds
• 16 percent start holiday shopping before Halloween
