Complaint: Post Office Worker Lifts Gift Cards From Mail, Heads To Detroit Casino, Starbucks

DETROIT (WWJ) - We're told neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night will impede the swift completion of "appointed rounds" but mix in a crooked Mount Clemens mail carrier, and you have a big problem!

The theft included gift cards -- taken from letters that were then re-taped and delivered.

Jennifer Barbera, an employee at the Mount Clemens Post office has admitted to the crime according to a criminal complaint filed at the U.S. District Court. The complaint outlines the theft of some $2,000 worth of cards, she says, over the past year.

Saying she has struggled financially, Barbera says she used the money to buy food for her and her children.

But investigators report the cards were cashed at among other places, a Starbucks and the MGM Grand Casino ... at times, with Barbera was photographed using the cards while on the job in her postal uniform.
