Competency Evaluation For Man In Office Shooting

DETROIT (AP) — Authorities are assessing the mental competency of a man accused of shooting three people at a Detroit tax-preparation business.

Twenty-year-old Xzavier Mazyck is charged with attempted murder, weapons and other crimes.

He's been scheduled for hearing Monday in Detroit District Court related to a competency evaluation and criminal responsibility examination. Wayne County prosecutor's spokeswoman Maria Miller said Monday evening that she'd been unable to determine the status or outcome of the hearing.

Authorities say Mazyck got into an argument with a tax preparer because a woman accompanying him couldn't get a cash tax refund at Tax City Tax Service.

Prosecutors say Mazyck in February shot a security guard and two women inside the building and beat a tax preparer.

A message seeking comment was left with his lawyer.
