Community Connect Spotlight: The Old Newsboys Goodfellow Fund of Detroit

Southfield (CW50) - 104 years ago, the Goodfellows vowed that no child would go without a Christmas present. Now, The Old Newsboys Goodfellow Fund of Detroit distributes 30,000 Christmas packages a year.

On this week's COMMUNITY CONNECT, Lisa Germani brings Marshall Hunt and Saran Carey onto the show to talk about how the Goodfellows continue to serve the community.

During the holiday season, the Goodfellows work with their partners, as well as the Detroit Public Schools and Detroit Police Department to find families that are in need of the gifts they make and distribute. They also accept applications to apply for the gifts, which are open for Christmas 2020 now.

The boxes that are distributed include clothing, dental kits, reading materials, and the dolls that are made by the volunteers. The volunteers dress around 9,000 dolls a year.

During the summer time, they help send kids to camp and have a shoe and dental program.
