Community Activist, Bruce Feaster, Dead At 55

DETROIT - Memorial services and fundraising underway after the death of 55-year-old Bruce Feaster.

Feaster, a grass roots political organizer and legislative assistant to many current and past elected officials, was mourned by family and community leaders Wednesday.

"Bruce was a passionate champion of Detroit and the American political process as a way to bring change to the most vulnerable citizens and communities of Detroit.  It was an honor to work alongside Bruce for the last three years and have such an outspoken public servant on my team.  You could always count on Bruce for a smile and a apropos quote from a great historical figure in any situation," said Councilman Scott Benson.

According to a statement from the family -- in an effort to offset burial costs and establish a college fund for his son -- family and friends hosted a fundraiser on Wednesday, with a goal to raise $8,000.

Contributions for the burial can be made to John Feaster at 2040 Chelan St, Flint, MI 48503.

Contributions to the college fund can be made to "Gamma Lambda Education Foundation" with the subject line indicating "Bruce Feaster Scholarship Fund, FBO Montez Mallory."

Checks can be mailed to the GL Education Foundation at: 293 Eliot, Detroit, MI 48201.
