Comment Sought On Small Parking Lots At Detroit River Wildlife Refuge

GROSSE ILE (WWJ/AP) - Officials are considering whether to build small parking lots as part of an effort to improve public access to the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge.
A public comment period on a draft Compatibility Determination began Friday and runs through April 7. Comments are being accepted by mail and email.
The review is being used to determine whether construction of the parking lots is compatible with the wildlife refuge's purpose and mission. The off-road parking would be for those going to the refuge for activities including hunting, fishing, hiking and wildlife observation.
Most of the lots would be for 5 to 15 vehicles.
The Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge includes nearly 6,000 acres along 48 miles of the lower Detroit River and western Lake Erie.
The public is invited to provide written comments to: Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge, Attn: Jody DeMeyere, 9311 Groh Road, Grosse Ile, MI 48138; or via email at detroitriver@fws.gov, by 5 PM on Thursday, April 7.
