Coast Guard Credits Teen With Saving 15 From Pontoon Stuck In Lake

GRAND HAVEN (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard is crediting a 13-year-old girl with helping to save a boatload of people.

The teen radioed the Coast Guard shortly after 1 a.m. and said the pontoon boat she was on was grounded and several passengers were in trouble.

Three people on board needed medication for asthma, another needed medical attention due to injuries suffered from an earlier car accident.

The girl was able to lead the Coast Guard to the boat's location in the Grand River near Grand Haven.

The crews used an inflatable skift to rescue 15 passengers, 13 of whom are deaf, from the boat.

The boat had only two life jackets on board.
