Police continue searching for person of interest after teen shot at Partridge Creek Mall

A 17-year-old is hospitalized, and police are searching for a person of interest after a shooting at Partridge Creek Mall in Clinton Township, Michigan, on Sunday night, according to officials.

Officers initially responded to the mall on the 17000 block of Hall Road for a report of gunfire around 7:13 p.m. Sunday. They found a 17-year-old from Mount Clemens suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was taken to an area hospital, where police say they are currently in stable condition.

Investigators have identified a Black male, whose age wasn't immediately disclosed, as a person of interest. Police said he is wearing a green hooded sweatshirt with white flowers, jeans and tennis shoes.

Authorities say the incident stemmed from a verbal altercation between two parties and was contained outside of the MJR Theatre entrance. Police say other reports of violence, including gunfire, at other locations within Partridge Creek, are false.

"This incident appears to be an isolated event that was contained between two parties, and not targeted at the tree lighting ceremony," Captain Michael Marker with the Clinton Township Police Department said in the release.

A tree lighting event at the mall was scheduled to take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., according to its website.

Helicopter footage of the scene shortly before 9 p.m. showed several police vehicles parked outside the mall and police tape surrounding at least two vehicles in a parking lot.

Officials from The Mall at Partridge Creek issued the following statement:

"We are currently working with local law enforcement to gather details on what occurred during Sunday's tree lighting event. Guest and staff safety is our top priority, and we will continue to collaborate with Clinton Township Police Department as they investigate this situation."

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Clinton Township police at 586-493-7839.
