Clinton Township Man Killed In Crash After Car Loses Tire On I-94

DETROIT (WWJ) - A Clinton Township man has died after his car lost a tire on I-94 in Detroit.

Michigan State Police responded to the scene, at around 4 a.m. Wednesday, on I-94 near Van Dyke on reports that two people were seriously injured in an accident.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a 2001 Saturn, later identified as 41-year-old Gregory Morris, lost a front tire and became disabled on the freeway. The driver of a 2002 Pontiac, headed eastbound on the freeway, saw the stopped Saturn but couldn't stop in time, police said, rear-ending the other vehicle.

Morris was rushed to a local hospital where he later died. The driver of the Pontiac was treated for what were described as non-life threatening injuries.

Police said alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the accident. They're not saying at this time what might have caused the tire problem as an investigation continues.
