Cinetopia Film Festival A 'Buffet' For Film Fanatics

DETROIT (WWJ) -- The Cinetopia International Film Festival is underway for another year in the Motor City.

More than 50 films will be screened in a number of venues in Detroit, Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Bloomfield Hills from June 3 through June 12. Cinetopia managing director Ruth Lednicer says the film festival is like a buffet for film fanatics.

"The best way to experience a festival is just kind of go with an open mind and see all of the different films that you think you might be interested in," Lednicer said. "Our programming team screened -- I think -- 450 films in order to [get] it down to the 54 that we're presenting."

The festival will showcase the best feature-length dramas, comedies and documentaries from some of the world's best festivals -- including Sundance, Cannes, Venice, Toronto, Berlin, SXSW and Tribeca.

"What we look for, really, is good storytelling," Lednicer said.

Some tickets to individual films are free and all others are $12 for the general public and $9 for DIA, DFT, Wright Museum, Arab American Museum, Henry Ford Museum and Michigan Theater members.
