'Cinema In The Cemetery' High On Family Fun, Low On Spooky Scale

ROCHESTER (WWJ) - If you're looking for something to do this weekend, a cemetery in Rochester just might be the place to go. That's right -- we said cemetery.

Guardian Angel Cemetery is hosting its second annual "Cinema in the Cemetery" night on Saturday.

Spokesperson Mike Chilcote told WWJ's Laura Bonnell they want to make people feel welcome at the cemetery, so they picked the kid-friendly movie "Despicable Me 2."

"We don't want to have the creepy factor, we don't have an eerie movie being shown in the cemetery," he said. "It's just a good, family fun introduction for children to not have to experience the cemetery in a sad way all the time."

And don't worry -- movie-goers won't have to sit on tombstones.

"They will be sitting in an area where it's undeveloped, so there are no memorials or markers in the area. People can bring their blankets and chairs," Chilcote said. "We do have popcorn and candy for the kids and some glow sticks, as well as some activities prior to the movie starting."

The event is a fundraiser for Raising Rochester, a nonprofit organization that builds and sustains multiple community gardens.

Tickets are $5 each. Showtime is Saturday, June 28 at 8 p.m.

Guardian Angel Cemetery is located at 4701 Rochester Road, at the corner of Snell Road in Rochester. For more information, call 248-601-2900.
