Chance For Severe Storms, Possible Tornado In Southeast Michigan Thursday

DETROIT (WWJ) - Everyone's eyes will be on the sky Thursday as there's a chance for severe storms this afternoon and evening -- and even the possibility of a tornado.

The day might start off decently, said CBS 62 Chief Meteorologist Jim Madaus, but it sure won't end that way.

"We'll have a little bit of a break here with temperatures in the 60s and mostly cloudy skies, gusty winds, until your drive home," said Madaus. "We're looking at cloud cover with showers and storms until about 10 p.m."

Forecasters say the biggest threats for metro Detroit are damaging winds and large hail. The rain may be heavy at times and could cause some flooding.

The National Weather Service also says there could be the potential for an isolated tornado in areas near the Ohio border.

Here's the local forecast from the CBS Detroit weather team:

Thursday -- Windy with thunderstorms, especially during the morning hours. Winds could gust over 40 mph. Thunderstorms and gusty winds during the evening will give way to partly cloudy skies after midnight. High 64F. Low 42F.

Friday -- Overcast. Slight chance of a rain shower. High 49F. Low 34F.

Saturday -- Partly cloudy early then becoming windy with rain developing later in the day. Snow may mix in. High 43F. Low 25F.

Sunday -- Sunshine and clouds mixed. occasional light rain after midnight. High 44F. Low 36F.

Monday -- Cloudy with light rain early. High 35F. Low 23F.
