Central Michigan Linebacker Charged With Assaulting Women, Suspended

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) - Central Michigan's football team has suspended linebacker Malik Fountain after he was charged with assault, a misdemeanor.

Fountain is accused of punching two women at the Wayside, a Mount Pleasant bar, on Dec. 2. He was arrested Thursday and released on bond. It wasn't immediately known if he has a lawyer who could be contacted for comment.

The Morning Sun, citing court records, says Fountain told police that he didn't hit any women. One woman told police that she needed nose surgery.

The 19-year-old Fountain, who's from Chicago, has three years of eligibility remaining at Central Michigan. He made 35 solo tackles last season and assisted on 32 more.

Assistant athletic director Rob Wyman says Fountain has been suspended for violating team rules.
