Car Fire Sparks Multi-Mile Traffic Jam On I-75

(MDOT Traffic Camera)

HAZEL PARK (WWJ) - Authorities were forced to close multiple lanes on I-75 near Detroit due to a car fire, creating a multi-mile traffic backup.

The incident unfolded around 7 a.m. Tuesday on southbound I-75 near the I-696 interchange at Exit 61 in Hazel Park. Other circumstances weren't immediately clear.

Traffic was backed up miles away, as drivers could only pass by the scene in the freeway's right two lanes.

After about an hour on the scene, officials had cleared away the burned car and other debris from the freeway and reopened all lanes to traffic.
