Caputo: 3 Things To Look Out For The Tigers This Spring Training

1. Batting statistics mean little in spring training, and the fields are sun-baked and hard. Still, Nick Castellanos must play at least reasonably well this spring to justify the Tigers handing him the starting third base job as a rookie.

2. Bruce Rondon must command the baseball. Last spring, he didn't and it did carry over to the start of the regular season.

3. Detroit native Daniel Fields, an outfielder, will see a lot of action in the exhibition games. While he has virtually no chance of heading north with the big club for opening day, a good spring and impressive start for Triple-A Toledo could land Fields in the major leagues sooner instead of later. If the Tigers have a weakness, it's left-handed hitting and Fields is a left-handed bat.
