1. Jets quarterback Geno Smith is a turnover machine and the Jets are discombobulated offensively. In order to win the NFC North or make the playoffs, the Lions must be at or near .500 on the road. This is one of their more winnable road games.

2. A victory would put the Lions at 3-1 with Buffalo coming to Ford Field the following week, and a road trip to Minnesota the week after that. The Lions could be looking at a 5-1 record before New Orleans visits Ford Field the week preceding their bye week.

3. The Lions need to accumulate as many victories as possible early in the season. Rallying late will be very, very difficult because their final two games are on the road at Chicago and Green Bay.
