Campus Martius To Host Spartan-Wolverine Football Rally

DETROIT (AP) - Some of the excitement around the Spartan and Wolverine football rivalry kicks off in a downtown Detroit park.

The Big Game Detroit Rally Wednesday at Campus Martius will feature a pep rally, Detroit high school marching bands, lunchtime games, live music and an after-work tailgate party.

Team flag football also will be played on the Campus Martius lawn.

The Spartans of Michigan State University visit the University of Michigan Wolverines Saturday in Ann Arbor. It is one of college football's most heated rivalries and has more at stake this season because of each team's success.

The Spartans are 6-0 overall and ranked seventh in The Associated Press football poll. The 12th-ranked Wolverines are 5-1.

Michigan has historically dominated the series that dates to 1898, winning nearly two-thirds of the matchups.
