When Terry Foster first broke the story that Calvin Johnson was going to retire from the NFL I was in shock. Then after thinking about it for a little while, it made sense to me. Johnson has more money than most people will make in a lifetime, and had played nine seasons for the Lions and had not won a playoff game. The only quote from Johnson in the preview about leaving the game early is, "If we would've been a contender, it would've been harder to let go."

Johnson does appear to be enjoying his retirement. He just recently got married and seems to be having a good time fishing as well.

It will be interesting to see some of the reasons that he gives for his retirement Thursday evening.
