Broad Art Museum Gets $5 Million Donation

EAST LANSING (AP) - The Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University has received $5 million to increase its endowment and help fund exhibitions for the next five years.

The donation announced Friday by the East Lansing museum is from The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation in honor of Michael Rush, the museum's founding director.

The gift brings to $33 million the total investment in the museum by billionaire philanthropist Eli Broad and his wife, Edythe, in addition to gifts of art. The Broads were the catalyst for the museum, providing a $28 million lead gift for design and construction.

The $40 million museum opened in 2012. Also called Broad MSU, it's dedicated to exploring global contemporary culture and ideas through art.
